Birth Registration Drive Reaches Remote Communities in Talensi
In a targeted outreach campaign, META Foundation collaborated with the Births and Deaths Registry and local health facilities to register over 1,200 previously unregistered children in the Talensi District. The month-long drive visited 22 communities, many of which are more than 15 kilometres from the nearest registration centre.
Low birth registration remains a significant challenge across Northern Ghana, with many children missing out on access to education, healthcare, and social protection services because they lack official documentation. META Foundation's community volunteers went door to door, educating families about the importance of registration while mobile teams processed certificates on the spot.
District Director of Health Services Dr. Akumbobe Atiah noted that the exercise also helped update immunisation records for hundreds of children. META Foundation has committed to sustaining the effort through quarterly follow-up visits and integration of birth registration messaging into its existing community health education sessions.
